Humility or Humiliation?

 

 

  Proverbs 10:24 What the wicked dreads will come to him, but what the righteous desire will be given to them. Since I'm in the US, I should focus on us in the US for a moment... The truth is, many things we dread are coming upon us. We have dreaded poverty, and now our money is becoming more and more worthless. We have dreaded having our land taken from us, and the truth is we don't even own the land we think we own now. If you think you do own it, then see what happens if you don't pay taxes on the land you think you own. We have dreaded losing our freedoms, and we are becoming less free. We have dreaded losing, but we cannot fight to win. There are things that we have desired that in all honesty we should not have desired, and the things we dread are in many ways the results of us pursuing those evil desires.   Every now and again I see a comment on the internet where the person writes about how people who have been wronged in the past need to, in so many words, "get over it", stop whining and just accept what happened to them and their people. This video gives one example of such short-sightedness. Should we really be surprised by the government's actions in the LBL? The government had lots of practice in breaking its word and in driving people from land they owned and occupied. Of course, those were just Indians, or maybe Chinese on the west coast, or some other not-American people. Or they were just black people having their rights taken away from them with Jim Crow laws. It was just someone else. It wasn't us. Let's let the gubmnt practice on them other people, and we'll just shut our eyes and ears and not think that they'll get good with all that practice and then try it all on us, too. I plan to occasionally repost this message again and again, to remember what this blog is about and not about: it's not about giving an endless listing of church crimes and sins, but the hope that this content will result in humility and repentance from the church. Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. Proverbs 22:4 The result of humility is fear of the Lord, along with wealth, honor, and life. Understandably, church leaders like to make much of those they consider to have been "heroes of the faith", those who have suffered persecution and martyrdom because of what they believed. Also understandably, church leaders do not like to consider that the church itself has far too often been the persecutor, that the church has been the one who kill the martyrs or who committed other gross sins.
